Busted flush?

Newsweek magazine is under fire for publishing a story that led to 16 deaths in Afghanistan. It now says it regrets printing it.

"People lost their lives. People are dead," Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said. "People need to be very careful about what they say, just as they need to be careful about what they do."

Rumsfeld suddenly showing concern for the dead in Iraq? No, it's that Newsweek story about flushing the Qur'an down the toilet.

In a statement, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said the original story was "demonstrably false" and "irresponsible," and "had significant consequences that reverberated throughout Muslim communities around the world."

Story? Demonstrably false? Irresponsible? Is that the WMD story that justified the invasion of Iraq by any chance? No, it's that Newsweek story about flushing the Qur'an down the toilet.
